U15 League Final
Caulry 4-8
St. Loman’s 5-16
Our U15s put up a good performance when they made the journey to contest their League Final in Lakepoint Park on Tuesday evening last.
The homeside were first off the mark with a point inside the opening 60 seconds. Sam Hatton was unlucky when his goal attempt was blocked down as this set the opposition up for another attack, which they finished over the bar. Hatton got lucky his second time of asking when he riffled the ball to the back of the St. Loman’s net on the 12th minute. However, our lead was short-lived as the Mullingar boys launched a quick blitz of scores, yielding 2-2. Gavin McSharry put his name on the scoresheet after combining nicely with Darragh Martin. St. Loman’s drew this one back, but the Caulry lads had some fuel left in the tank as they finished the half with an unanswered 0-5. McSharry popped over his second before Ciaran Dunning pointed on the 23rd minute. Aaron Buckley then kicked points either side of a point from Hatton to reduce the gap to two at the break.
However, the contest was put to bed early in the second half when the homeside launched a tirade of scores. They outscored our lads 1-9 to 0-1 in the opening stages of the half. Despite this, the Caulry lads never gave up. John Paul was a fine example of leadership when he burst down the field from his own goal-line and set Martin up for a three-pointer on the 47th minute. This endeavour somewhat inspired a comeback as moments later Martin found the net again, this time due to good work from Darragh Belton. St. Loman’s dented our progress with their fourth goal of the game on the 50th minute. Before the end of the game, two more goals were shared, with Rhys Mason adding one for Caulry. A late trio of points ensured St. Loman’s ran out winners and crowned league champions.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Rhys Mason (1-0), Gavin Quilty, Matthew Allen, Luke Berry, John McDermott, Fionn Murphy, Gavin McSharry (0-3), Tristan Dolan, Kevin O’Brien, Euan Kelly, Ciaran Dunning (0-1), Sam Hatton (1-1), Aaron Buckley (0-2), Darragh Martin (2-1)
Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 4-10
St. Loman’s 1-11
Our juniors wrapped up their Division 4 ACFL campaign with a win over St. Loman’s on Tuesday evening last.
The homeside were first to get motoring, adding two points early on. Liam Malynn then kicked our opening point of the game after eight minutes. Darren Hynds set up an attack deep from within the Caulry defence as Harry Hughes worked the ball in and found Darren Browne who hit the back of the Mullingar net. Further points from Browne and Neil Clinton had Caulry four points the good by the 14th minute. St. Loman’s found a pocket in our defence and had the margins reduced to one after a well-taken goal. Caulry responded well when Malynn tapped over a point. Despite the opening flurry of scores, the second quarter slowed in pace, with just four scores being added. Three of these were in favour of St. Loman’s. However, Malynn added the equaliser to leave the game all-square at the interval.
The teams traded points early in the second half with Malynn pointing from a free. Olan Healy sent a dangerous ball in towards the St. Loman’s net and Browne once again proved his worth, getting a vital touch to help the ball into the back of the net. The opposition drew one back with a converted-free on the 37th minute. However, Caulry were on a roll and added an unanswered 1-2 within the following three minutes. Sean Murphy and Malynn both added points before a touch from Tadgh Baker helped the ball into the back of the St. Lomans’ net. The homeside were given a lifeline on the 43rd minute in the form of a penalty, which luckily for Caulry was mis-kicked and fired over the bar. Conor Hynes then brought off a great save a couple of minutes later and this was surely a sign of the Mullingar men’s fate. Malynn cancelled out two points for the homeside to keep our lead intact. Browne then got his hattrick on the 58th minute after a good intercept from Clinton was worked up the field via Adam Donoghue. St. Loman’s kicked the last score of the game, but ultimately our lads had done enough to run out winners.

Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 1-12
St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge 1-12
Caulry and St. Mary’s served up an entertaining hour of football in the park on a sunny Sunday morning last.
Two Caulry chances went wide before the first score of the game was kicked, this in favour of St. Mary’s on the 4th minute. Our lads then got going in style when Sean Fox fielded the ball well and set Aaron Roarke up for a goal to launch Caulry into a two-point lead. St. Mary’s reduced the margins back to one on the 6th minute. Thomas Dunning combined nicely with Tiarnán O’Donovan and finished with a point. Every move we made was closely followed by the opposition as the sides were all-square four times during the half with Alan Malynn, O’Donovan and Dunning adding our scores. The visitors to the park then took over in the closing minutes of the half, scoring an unanswered 1-4. Firstly, they tapped over two points before pouncing on a wayward short kickout and rattling the back of the net on the 24th minute. This move preceded another duo of points, one of which was tapped over by their own goalkeeper who spent a lot of the half outfield. Malynn reduced the gap back to five with his pointed-free just before the break.
The tables turned in the second half with our lads accounting for all of the scores bar two. Early points from Colin Murphy, O’Donovan, Dunning and Malynn chipped away at the deficit as O’Donovan popped over the equaliser on the 48th minutes thanks to a good catch from Tadgh Baker at midfield. Murphy then edged our lads in front. Jack Connaughton brought off a good save on the 56th minute as the opposition had to wait until the 57th minute for their opening score of the half, this coming from their goalie who was now wearing no. 16 on his back. As fulltime loomed, St. Mary’s managed to sneak in front with a point from play. Our lads dug deep and were patient in attack. Roarke and Adam Donoghue put pressure on the St. Mary’s defence as the ball got loose and Baker used this to his advantage as he settled for a point, just in the nick of time as the referee signalled fulltime.
