Division 7 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 2-18
Tang 2-19
Our third team suffered their first defeat at the hands of Tang when the maroon and white side pocketed a last-minute goal to escape with a narrow win on Monday evening last.
Tang were first to get going as they kicked the opening two scores of the game. Liam Malynn levelled the game after four minutes when he raised an orange flag. Tang kicked the next trio of points as they went ahead again. Points from Rory Hatton, Shane Lawless, Malynn and Cody Parker kept the scoreboard ticking over. The visitors pocketed the first goal of the game after twenty-five minutes but before the break Malynn converted a two-point free as the scoreboard reading 0-9 to 1-9 at the interval.
The sides traded points in the early stages of the half as Lee Corcoran added one for our side. By the 38th minute, the scoreline was turned on its head after Malynn raised his third orange flag and Aaron Murphy fired home a goal (Corcoran combining well after a pinpoint pass by Malynn). A converted ‘45’ momentarily stretched the lead out three. The sides were back on par after a quadruple of pointed-frees between the 41st and 51st minutes (three of these for Tang and one from Malynn). The last ten minutes of the game was as entertaining as the preceding fifty as it was all to play for right up until the fulltime whistle. Murphy put our lads in front with a two-pointer after a fine catch from Lawless at midfield. Parker then stretched our lead to five when he fired home our second goal of the game. The visitors weren’t going down without a fight though and had the gap back to two after a trio of unanswered points. Malynn doubled the deficit once again with this fourth two-point score of the game. But blink and you would have miss it as the advantage was cut back to two courtesy of a Tang two-pointer. The sides battled hard in the dying stages of the game ,and it was the opposition who came out on top as they snuck in a last-minute goal to sneak away with the win.

Boys U14 League Round 3
Our U14 boys came up short against Garrycastle when they played host to the green and red side in the park on Thursday evening last.
Our boys were first to get off the mark when Cillian Moran booted over a point. Garrycastle got going with their first goal of the game. The visitors then added a series of scores as they began to build a lead. Moran kicked our second point of the game then before Adam Ledwith fired home a goal on the 18th minute. Before the break, the sides shared a smattered of scores. Our boys restarted the second half well with scores from Michael Grady and Ledwith. Our boys showed great determination and grit as they fought hard against the strong opposition. A goal from Ryan McCormack reduced the deficit somewhat late in the half, but ultimately, it wasn’t our day as the Garrycastle boys ran out comfortable winners.

Ladies Division 2 League Round 4
Caulry 3-7
Moate 1-12
Our ladies managed to escape with a narrow win when they hosted Moate in the park on a wet and greasy Sunday morning last.
Despite what the scoreline suggested, it was Moate who played most of the football in the opening half. Thankfully from a Caulry point of view, their scoring accuracy was below par as they grappled with the conditions. After ten minutes of play, the visitors lead our girls 0-4 to 0-1 (Leah Quigley converting a free for us). Megan Clinton tied the game when she dispossessed the Moate defence and made the most of an easy goal opportunity. The girls in white and black momentarily went ahead again, but after Molly Connuaghton converted a penalty, it was us in front for the first time in the game. Quigley added a late pointed-free to see our ladies ahead by three at the break.
Moate seemed to learn from their first half mistakes as their scoring accuracy improved in the second half and by the 40th minute, they lead 2-2 to 0-9 after a series of unanswered points. Clinton kicked our first score of the second half on the 46th minute, but Moate were back in front within seconds when they worked the ball down the field for a goal. Quigley and Jasmine Maloney cancelled out two Moate points as Clinton’s 58th minute point, reduce the deficit to two. The visitors missed a vital point then as our girls worked the ball from the kickout with Karrissa Burns finishing this move to the back of the net, edging our girls in front. Erin O’Faoláin showed good guile then as she finished with a point to give our girls a dangerous two-point cushion. The next score of the game was a successful free for Moate. The referee let one more play transpire, with our girls eventually breaking down the field and greeting the fulltime whistle with relief as they finished on the right side of this result.
