Boys U16 Division 4 League Round 2
On a brisk Monday evening, the Caulry U16s travelled to Tyrrellspass to take on the home side in Round 2 of the league. The Caulry lads put in a strong performance but ultimately fell just short in a closely contested encounter.
A well-taken goal helped Caulry edge ahead at the break, leading by a point after an evenly fought first half. Tyrrellspass responded strongly after the interval, converting key chances and raising a crucial goal to swing momentum in their favour. Despite a determined effort, and a second goal keeping Caulry firmly in contention, Tyrrellspass finished the stronger to secure a three-point win on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-09.
There were plenty of positives to take, with great work rate and teamwork shown throughout. The squad will look to build on this performance heading into the next round.

Boys U14 Division 2 League Round 2
Caulry 3-7
Athlone 5-10
Our U14 boys came up short against Athlone when they hosted the side in the park on Wednesday evening last.
Athlone were first off the mark as they added three points in quick succession. Cillian Moran levelled things up when he raised a green flag after combining nicely with Aengus Baker. Tadgh O’Faoláin put our boys in front then when he registered our second goal of the game. Before the halftime whistle, Athlone took charge and built a healthy lead to go in front at the break.
Athlone were first off the mark again in the second half as they booted home another goal. Moran almost immediately drew this back with his three-pointer (Reuben Bucys McLaughlin and Adam Ledwith helping set up this score). Cian Buckley then added a point after availing of the solo & go rule. Another Caulry score, this time a free by Charlie Buckley, reduced the gap further. However, Athlone pulled away again with another goal from play. Our boys added consecutive points then, but the visitors widened the gap with a series of scores from play. The last three points of the game came from the boots of Cian and Charlie, but ultimately, Athlone had done enough to get away with the win.
Panel & Scorers: Rory Hassen, Fionn Murphy, Charlie Buckley (0-4, 2f), Conor McCarthy, Gavin Hennesy, Dara Quilty, Joseph Walsh, Sean Maguire, Aengus Baker, Cian Buckley (0-3, 1f), Adam Ledwith, Reuben Bucys McLaughlin, Tadgh O’Faoláin (1-0), Cillian Moran (2-0), Senan Brady, Aidean Moran, Michael Grady, Ryan McCormack, Noah Picard, Jude Kelly

Division 1 ACFL Round 5
Caulry 0-19
St. Loman’s 2-17
Our seniors put up a good fight against St. Loman’s when they hosted the Mullingar side in the park on a wet and windy Saturday evening last.
Aided with a strong breeze at their backs, it was St. Loman’s who dominated the first half of the game. The blustery conditions meant any high ball booted up in the air found its way over the bar with almost 100% success rate. The first four scores of the game were all two pointers from the St. Loman’s full forward. Our lads grappled with the tough conditions as Shane Lawless opened our scoring account with a point from play on the 18th minute (the same man had been denied a goal in the first quarter of the game). The Mullingar side’s no. 14 raised his fifth orange flag then. The sides shared four points within the next seven minutes as Luke Buckley added both Caulry points (one from a free and one from play after initial goal efforts from Tiarnán O’Donovan and Colin Murphy were well blocked down). Before the break, the visitors added a point to lead by eleven at the interval.
It looked as though our lads were dead and buried within two minutes of the restart as a quick scoring blitz stretched the St. Loman’s lead to fifteen. However, our lads didn’t throw in the towel as Oisín Shortall tapped over the next point of the game to settle our nerves. Now aided with the wind, Buckley booted over a two-pointer to reduce the deficit some more. Kevin Maguire (from play) and Jack Connaughton (a pointed free) followed suit as they raised our second and third orange flags of the game. St. Loman’s stalled our resurgence then as they added a point just at the end of this third quarter. Another two-point free from Connaughton reduced the deficit to six. But just as we got close, the Mullingar side added a goal to pull away again. Our lads finished the stronger of the two sides, adding 0-7 to St. Loman’s 0-1. Connaughton converted another two-point free before a trio of points from Buckley: two of these came from play and one from a free. O’Donovan rounded off the scoring with a late point as ultimately, the St. Loman’s first half tirade proved to be enough to secure them this brace of points.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-6, 3f, 3 2pt.), Sean Clinton, Tom Cloonan, Sean Murphy, Olan Healy, Kevin Maguire (0-2, 1 2 pt.), Dean Martin, Stephen Connolly, Harry Stuart Trainor, Oisín Shortall (0-1), Damien Dolan, Shane Lawless (0-1), Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-1), Luke Buckley (0-8, 2f, 2 2pt.), Colin Murphy

Division 4 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 4-15
Tyrrellspass 2-13
Our second team kept up their winning ways when they made the journey to Tyrrellspass on Sunday morning last.
Similar to Saturday’s game, the wind had a massive bearing on precedings. The homeside, playing with the elements in their favour, raced into an early lead and were 1-4 up after five minutes. Our lads got going in style when Thomas Dunning got the finishing touch to a ball in by Roan Sweeney and registered our first goal of the game. Dunning kicked a point then before another point from Jonny Buckley reduced the gap to two. Tyrrellspass kicked a trio of consecutive points, but this was drawn back in no time when Dunning got our second goal of the game (Luke Buckley and Olan Healy being instrumental in this set up). A point from Shane Lawless was cancelled out up the other end of the field as the sides retreated to the dressing rooms with Tyrrellspass leading 2-3 to 1-8 at the break.
The homeside added a point straight after the restart, but this was as good as it got for the men in blue and navy. Buckley fired over our first two-pointer of the game then before Lawless got the equalising score on the 34th minute. Our lads never looked back at this stage in the game as the favouring breeze now made scores a lot easier to come by. Lawless (two from play), Buckley (a two-pointer), Dunning (two from play), Lee Corcoran and Adam Donoghue all added to the scoreline to widen the gap between the sides. Tyrrellspass kicked points either side of Dunning’s hattrick (Donoghue picking him out well with a pass). A point from Healy kept the scoreboard ticking over. However, the homeside got back into the swing of things as they added an unanswered 1-2 before the end of the game. Lawless diminished the Tyrrellspass’ men’s dream though when he hit the back of the net to ensure our lads their fourth consecutive win.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Rory Hatton, Jonny Buckley (0-1), Olan Healy (0-1), Cormac Murphy, Eoin Shortall, Dean Martin, Alan Lynam, Shane Lawless (1-4), Roan Sweeney, Luke Buckley (0-4, 2 2pt.), Will Buckley, Liam Malynn, Thomas Dunning (3-3), Adam Donoghue (0-1)
