Boys U14 Championship
Semi Final
Caulry 6-12
Milltownpass 2-5
Our U14 boys qualified for the county final when they overcame Milltownpass in the semi final on Monday evening last in the park.
Points from Adam Ledwith and Senan Hatton helped Caulry into an early lead before the opposition went ahead with a goal on the 14th minute. Our boys had chances to go ahead again, but these efforts fell wide. Joe Carroll got a goal just before the break to give Caulry the marginal lead of 1-3 to 1-2 at halftime.
A trio of points from Ledwith, Zach Buckley and Cillian Moran stretched the Caulry lead in the early stages of the second half. Super subs Aengus Baker and Cian Buckley weren’t long about putting their stamp on proceedings when they were introduced: Buckley won the opposition’s kickout and set Zach up for a goal before Baker added a point from play. Milltownpass responded with a pointed-free then. However, they had no answer for the Caulry forward line who were now on fire. Moran, Robert O’Dowd, Baker, Gavin Hennessy and Buckley all added scores before the full time whistle to set our boys up for a county final clash against St. Joseph’s.

Final
Caulry 2-6
St. Joseph’s 3-5
Our boys then made the journey to Ballymore on Sunday afternoon last to contest the county final against St. Joseph’s.
Both sides were slow to settle with only two scoring chances being converted in the first quarter; both came from Caulry frees with Cillian Moran and Senan Hatton on target. Adam Ledwith kicked the opening score from play after eighteen minutes after nice-combined teamwork from Aengus Baker and Cian Buckley. Moran was unlucky then as the St. Joseph’s goalie done very well to clear his line. Rather we had to settle for another point, again from Ledwith. The opposition, although they struggled to tag on scores in this opening half, looked dangerous by times with our goal-line being put under pressure on the 26th minute; Hatton and Sean Maguire both brought off timely interventions to stop the opposition’s threat. St. Joseph’s eventually got off the mark with a point from play as our boys retreated to the dressing rooms at half time with a three-point lead.
St. Joseph’s started the second half well as they accounted for the first four points to marginally take the lead. A short shot taken by the opposition set up our first attack, which Hatton tapped over the level the game. Within a matter of minutes, the scoreline was turned on its head when our boys struck lucky with two goals: Moran converted a penalty firstly before Ledwith pocketed the second goal (Baker giving off a great pass to set up this move). However, the boys in green and yellow weren’t going to go down without a fight as they battled hard and had the sides back on par with seven minutes remaining as they fired home two goals of their own. A free from Hatton on the 27th minute gave our boys a very dangerous lead heading into the final minutes of play. Despite the very best efforts of our lads, the opposition manage to sneak a late goal, and this transpired to be the last score of the game. Hard luck to our boys and their management but well done on a very successful campaign.
