Division 4 ACFL Round 5
Caulry 4-9
St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge 0-9
Our Division 4 ACFL team had a good win over St. Mary’s when they made the journey to Rochfortbridge on Thursday evening last.
Kyle Rainey opened the scoring account after five minutes with a point from play, having availed of a good pass by Sean Doyle. Doyle was instrumental again for our second score of the evening; this time he laid the ball off the Neil Clinton who finished with a goal. Liam Malynn put Caulry six points the good then with a well-taken two-pointer. By the end of this first quarter, the lead was extended to ten; a fumble in front of the Rochfortbridge goal saw Thomas Dunning’s effort land into the back of the net before Will Buckley fisted over a point to increase the lead. St. Mary’s kicked their first and second scores of the game within the 19th minute to get their name on the scoresheet. The sides were evenly matched in the last couple of minutes of this half as they shared 0-4; Cody Parker adding both Caulry scores to lead 2-6 to 0-4 at the break.
The Rochfortbridge men started the second half with a score inside 40 seconds. Rainey fired home a goal then after combining nicely with Mark Fitzpatrick. However, St. Mary’s drew this back with a couple of points; one a two-pointer free and the other from play. There was a ten-minute famine of scores then as the next point came from the boot of Thomas Dunning on the 50th minute. Aaron Murphy then got a touch to a dropping free by Malynn to send the ball over the bar. Super sub Jack O’Meara done well when introduced as he tore forward and chipped the keeper on the 58th minute to restore our ten-point cushion. St. Mary’s were last the add to the scoreline with a point from play but ultimately, our lads cruised into the win.

Division 1 ACFL Round 7
Caulry 1-16
Tyrrellspass 2-9
Our seniors picked up their fourth brace of points when they made the journey to Tyrrellspass on Saturday evening last for their Round 7 of the Division 1 ACFL.
Tiarnán O’Donovan opened the scoring account with his point from play on the 4th minute. Tyrrellspass soon levelled things up with a point up the other end of the field. A Tyrrellspass attack broke down on the 6th minute and this gave Caulry a platform to build on the counter-attack as the ball was worked up the field via Shane Lawless before Alan Malynn finished to the back of the net, giving Caulry a lead we would not relinquish. The homeside were wasteful up front as a smattering of chances went wide. Our lads were more successful in their endeavours as we accounted for the next five points; Sean Murphy (a tidy finish), Malynn (after Sean Clinton and John Maguire combined under the breaking ball), Shane Lawless (a duo of points on the 20th and 22nd minutes) and Oisín Shortall (Maguire again claiming the kickout) were the men on target. Tyrrellspass saw out the half with somewhat of a comeback as they outscored Caulry 0-5 to 0-1 in the last three minutes of the half; the homeside added two fine two pointers before the sides exchanged frees to leave Caulry leading 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.
The first score of the second half came in the form of a Caulry free from Jack Connaughton. Tyrrellspass converted a similar score then up their end of the field on the 35th minute. Stephen Connoly and O’Donovan added points prior to a converted Tyrrellspass penalty which brought the deficit back to three. The sides exchanged frees on the 47th and 50th minutes. Connolly stretched the Caulry lead to five then when he booted over a two pointer after a patient move. O’Donovan and Neil Clinton added points on the 54th and 55th minutes. To credit Tyrrellspass, they kept chomping at our heels as a quick-fire 1-1 brought the gap back to two. Shortall was the last person to score late in the half to secure Caulry the win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-9.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 2f), Glenn Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Olan Healy, Eoghan Grennan, Damien Dolan, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly (0-3, 1 2pt.), Sean Murphy (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-2), Oisín Shortall (0-2), Cody Parker, Tiarnán O’Donovan (0-3), John Maguire, Alan Malynn (1-2, 1f)

Boys’ Minor League Round 3
Caulry 4-12
Esker Gaels 4-16
Our minors served up an entertaining hour of football when they made the journey to Maryland on Sunday morning last to play Esker Gaels in Round 3 of this year’s league.
Our boys made a great start to the game and were 1-3 to 0-0 up by the end on the 2nd minute; Brian Doyle scored the goal while Lee Corcoran, Doyle (a free) and Simon O’Grady were the point scorers. Esker Gaels got motoring with a two pointer on the 3rd minute. By the 13th minute, the homeside had taken the lead after a quick scoring blitz yielded 2-2. Doyle’s second goal put the narrowest of margins back between the sides and after O’Grady pointed it was all-square once again by the 17th minute. Caulry were the more dominate side for the remainder of the half, outscoring Esker Gaels 1-3 to 0-1; Doyle added the trio of points and the same player set up a goal opportunity for Aaron Buckley. This saw us lead by four at the break.
Buckley restarted the second half scoring with a free on the 34th minute. Esker Gaels then took charge of proceedings and had it level pegging once again but the 40th minute after registering 1-2. The scoreline remained practically unchanged then for the next ten minutes as the sides cancelled out one another’s scores; O’Grady added two from play and Corcoran added a two-pointer during this period. Buckley gave Caulry the lead then when a dangerous dropping ball landed into the back of the Esker Gaels’ net. However, in line with the nature of the game, it was the homeside’s turn to take back control then; they were patient up front and took their points to bring the deficit back to one. A 58th minute goal proved vital for the homeside as it gave them a two-point cushion with time almost up. The Caulry boys tried hard but to no avail as two frees ensured Esker Gaels the win.
Team & Scorers: Fionn O’Donovan, Fionn Murphy, Rory Hatton, Gavin Quilty, Daniel Lynam, John Paul, John McDermott, Dean Martin, Lee Corcoran (0-3, 1 2pt.), Simon O’Grady (0-4), Hugo McGowan, Luke Berry, Cian Malone, Brian Doyle (2-3, 2f), Aaron Buckley (2-1, 1f)
