U16 Championship Round 4
Caulry 1-8
Tyrrellspass 6-7
Our U16s came up short against Tyrrellspass when they hosted the side in the park on Monday evening last.
Caulry started well with Aaron Buckley opening the scoring account after two minutes. The visitors then followed suit up their end of the field to tie up proceedings. Tyrrellspass went in front with the opening score from play on the 11th minute after they regained possession. The boys in blue and navy kicked up a gear and were 2-4 to 0-1 in front thanks to a brace of scores. Buckley drew one of these back from a free on the 19th minute. Tyrrellspass then accounted for the next two points, but Caulry finished the half well with scores from Buckley, John Paul and Kevin O’Brien to reduce the gap at the break.
Tyrrellspass dominated much of the second half with early goals and points stretching their lead. Our boys got a hold of the game on the 43rd minute when Darragh Martin finished with a point. Luke Berry and Martin added another two scores, before Matthew Allen netted a goal, having got a touch to a ball in from Tristan Dolan. Ultimately, the gap was too wide as Tyrrellspass saw the game out and ran out comfortable winners.

Minor Championship Round 5
Caulry 1-5
St. Loman's 2-11
Our minors came up short against St. Loman's when they hosted the Mullingar side in the park on Thursday evening last for their Round 5 of this year's championship.
St. Loman's hit the ground running and were 1-5 to 0-0 up by the end of the opening quarter. Brian Doyle opened our account on the 17th minute, having combined nicely with Lee Corcoran. The sides then exchanged points with Aaron Murphy adding a pointed-free for Caulry after Doyle was fouled. The boys in blue and white added two more points before the interval to lead 1-8 to 0-2 at the break.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the second half as the previously dominant St. Loman's only matched our 1-3 tally. Points were traded early on with Daniel Lynam on target for Caulry. Aaron Hanevy's 38th minute goal brought the deficit back to six. John Paul cleared his line well then as the St. Loman's boys had to settle for a point. Murphy kicked two consecutive points on the 48th and 49th minutes reducing the deficit once again. But ultimately, the gap was too wide as a late 1-1 ensured St. Loman's ran out winners with nine points to spare.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Kyle Byrne, Cormac Murphy, Dara Shortall, Cody Parker, Eoin McCormack, Daniel Lynam (0-1), David Gaynor, Aaron Murphy (0-3, 2f), Dean Burns, Lee Corcoran, Brian Doyle, Aaron Hanevy (1-0), Luke Nolan, Kyle Rainey
Subs: Cian Malone, Max O'Sullivan, Tyler Mason

SFC Round 5
Caulry 1-9
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-13
Our seniors bowed out of this year’s championship when they clashed with Coralstown/Kinnegad in Moate on Saturday evening last for their final round-robin game. Only a win would have seen our lads progress to the knockout stages but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as Caulry came up just four points short of last year’s county finalists.
The nerves from both sides could be felt in the opening minutes of the game with Caulry and Coralstown/Kinnegad missing early scoring chances. Senan Baker was first to find the posts with his effort on the 4th minute opening the scoring account. Coralstown/Kinnegad shortly followed with their starting point coming from a free. Our lads then raced into a three-point lead when Tadgh Baker got a vital touch to Stephen Connolly’s long kick in to pocket the first goal of the game on the 9th minute. The men in white and red were like a pack of wolves on the attack and in defence as they pressurised the ball in numbers. One such example forced a Caulry mistake, allowing the opposition to work the ball up the field for a point. Conor McCormack managed to draw this one back with his 15th minute effort after combined nicely with Alan Malynn. However, it was Coralstown/Kinnegad who had the strongest second quarter as they added 0-7 to Caulry’s 0-1. A trio of points, all from play, preceded Senan Baker’s effort (again Malynn showing well and setting up this score) before the opposition slotted over another four points (three frees and one from play) to retreat to the dressing rooms with a 0-8 to 1-3 lead at the break.
Our lads had it back to level-pegging five minutes after the resumption of play with our scores coming courtesy of McCormack (a ‘45’) and Malynn (Kevin Maguire being instrumental in this move having won the ball at midfield and laying it off to the corner forward). Coralstown/Kinnegad soon found their feet with a duo of points on the 37th and 40th minutes (one a free and one a mark) to marginally widen the gap once again. It looked like a goal was on on the 43rd minute when Sean Murphy found himself in front of the goal but some how or another a Coralstown/Kinnegad man managed to block the kick and send it over to bar; this proved to be a pivotal point in the game with the defender in question being worth his place on the starting 15 for this single action alone as rather than being two points up, our lads still found themselves with a dog fight on their hands and chasing the one point deficit heading into the last quarter of the game. Caulry had chances then which they failed to convert as the next two scores of the game came from the opposition (one from play and another from a free). Connolly brought the deficit back to two once again on the 51st minute to keep our hopes alive. But we were shortly dealt a sucker punch in the form of a Coralstown/Kinnegad goal when the well-drilled side worked the ball down the field and into the back of the next with six minutes of normal time remaining. It was do or die for Caulry at this stage as Baker and Damien Dolan sent over late points. But a goal was needed if we were to progress and ultimately, it never came as the opposition popped over the last score of the game to secure their win. This defeat coupled with the results of others in Section A saw Coralstown/Kinnegad secure a semi-final spot as our lads go tumbling down to Section B. Hard luck lads. A massive thank you to all the players and their management team of Pat Flanagan, Joe Quinn, Brian Mullarney and Kevin Connaughton for all their hard work and commitment during the year. Unfortunately, our championship campaign hasn’t transpired as we would have wished despite the best efforts of our lads. But after a hugely successful league campaign, we can look forward to playing Division 1 ACFL next year which will be a great springboard for the 2025 SFC.
