Division 1 ACFL Round 9
Caulry 0-5
St. Loman’s 2-17
Our seniors wrapped up their Division 1 ACFL campaign with a defeat to St. Loman’s in Lakepoint park on a wet and miserable Thursday evening last.
The sides shared a tally of 0-4 in the opening eleven minutes of play; the home side added two points from play before Harry Stuart Trainor opened Caulry’s scoring account after a patient build up. A free from Stephen Connolly then tied up the game. St. Loman’s edged in front again with another point from play. The homeside then stretched their lead to four with a well-taken goal at the end of this opening quarter. Our lads struggled up front with multiple attempts falling short or wide, and this was further hindered when Thomas Dunning was forced to the line after receiving a red card on the 23rd minute. Up the other end of the field, St. Loman’s took their scores with ease as they retreated to the dressing room with a 1-7 to 0-2 lead at the break.
A similar second half was in store as the opposition dominated throughout. Our lads only managed to convert three chances in this half; two of which from the boot of Adam Donoghue on the 33rd minute (from play) and 38th minute (a free). Meanwhile, St. Loman’s looked to use the half as shooting practice as they racked up a second half tally of 1-10. Connolly kicked our last score of the game in the 51st minute (this a fine long-range effort). This defeat means our lads finish with 8 points and secure their place in the Division 1 ACFL for next year. The lads now loom forward to a break before championship which starts at the end of July.
