Division 4 ACFL
Caulry 0-13
Rosemount 2-9
Our juniors were defeated on Bank Holiday Monday last afternoon when they made the journey to Rosemount for Round 6 of the Division 4 ACFL.
Liam Malynn opened the scoring account with a free on the 3rd minute. Rosemount drew level a short time later with a point from play. Caulry had a goal opportunity on the 10th minute after a brilliant drive forward from Tadgh Baker but the ball was kicked wide of its target. The following kickout set the homeside up for an attack, which culminated in a pointed-mark on the 12th minute. Sean Murphy levelled the sides with his effort soon after. Rosemount were unlucky to miss a goal chance of their own after a good move at the end of the first quarter. The game continued on a tit for tat basis as scores from Malynn, Alan Daly and Alan Fitzpatrick were cancelled out at the other end of the field. The homeside struck lucky in the last minute of play where they rattled the back of the Caulry net before retreating to the sideline for half-time with a three-point cushion.
Our net-minder was again put under pressure from the offset of the second half, but this time Ruiari Casey did enough to rule out the threat. Alan Fitzpatrick and Oisín Shortall added scores in quick succession to reduce the gap to one. However, the men in black and amber kept Caulry at a touching distance, tapping over the next point from a free. Similar to the first half, the game continued on a stop-start basis with scores from Baker and Malynn punctuating the play. Having worked a draw, Caulry got the chance to go ahead as the final quarter approached, but this effort from Alan Lynam dropped short. This seemed to get Rosemount going once again, as they were responsible for the next trio of points (the last of which could have been a goal had it not rebounded off the cross-bar). Chasing the three-point deficit going into the final few minutes of the game, our hopes for a result looked bleak. However, Shortall and Malynn showed great composure to take their scores and by the 58th minute, it was level-pegging once again. With pressure on, every action was important and any wrong move would be game changing, and so it was when a Rosemount forward pulled on a loose ball and hit the back of our net. Malynn the tapped over the last score of the game from a free, but Rosemount had done enough to take the win.
