Junior 2 Championship Quarter Final
Caulry 0-17
Loughnavalley 1-10
Our juniors progress to the semi-final stages of this year’s championship when they overcame Loughnavalley on Sunday afternoon last.
Loughnavalley opened the scoring account with a point from play on the 1st minute. Adam Donoghue then matched this score up our end of the field before Alan Lynam added another after winning the following kickout. Liam Malynn kicked Caulry’s third score of the game from a free on the 8th minute. The men in green and yellow brought it back to a one-point game when they overturned our lads in attack. Our lads had a purple patch between the 13th and 25th minutes, adding points to stretch our lead to seven; Malynn added two frees before a stream of points came courtesy of Mark Fitzpatrick (after Johnny Buckley broke down a Loughnavalley attack), Donoghue (after combining with Oisín Shortall), Thomas Dunning and Luke Buckley (two well-taken points). Loughnavalley put a dent in the deficit then with a trio of points. However, this could have been doubled had Cillian Nagle not brough off a save on the 29th minute. Dunning finished off the first half’s scoreline with his effort to see Caulry lead by double scores, 0-10 to 0-5 at the break.
The third quarter of the game consisted of a stop-start passages as the five scores taken were all from placed balls. Only one of these was in our favour which brought the game back to just two points. Luke Buckley kicked the first score from play after seventeen minutes, having combined nicely with Dunning. The opposition levelled this at the other end of the field. Buckley proved to be in the right place at the right time when he added the next two scores from play; firstly he finished off Lynam’s effort on the 48thminute before tapping over another two minutes later after a ball in from Alan Daly. Oisín Shortall and Buckley added further points to further the Caulry lead. However, Loughnavalley were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time which they dutifully converted to take the look off the scoreline, finishing 0-17 to 1-10.
