Junior B Championship Round 1
Caulry 1-14
Bunbrosna 3-21
Our juniors made the journey to Bunbrosna on Tuesday evening last for their opening game of the Junior B Championship.
The sides looked evenly matched in the opening minutes of the game with Mark Fitzpatrick cancelling out the homeside’s initial score. However, it wasn’t long before the Bunbrosna men put their stamp on the game. They added two points before firing home their opening goal of the game on the 10th minute. The homeside dominated the kickout and were more clinical up front adding another duo of points before Caulry launched their next attack. This came from Adam Donoghue, but after the ball fell short of its target, Bunbrosna built from deep and finished with a point at the other end of the field. The homeside had raised their tally to 2-10 before our next score of the game. This came from an error in the Bun defence which saw an own-goal being awarded after a long ball in from Donoghue. Liam Malynn then drew another point back with his free after a foul was committed on Andy O’Sullivan. However, our progress was futile as the opposition responded with 1-2 in quick succession. Malynn reduced the gap by one again before the interval, but as the teams retreated to the dug-outs, Bunbrosna lead 3-12 to 1-3.
Our lads put on a better display in the second half as Sean O’Neill added a point after combining nicely with Olan Healy. Bunbrosna drew this one back before Hugh Allen added a score on the 32nd minute. Malynn’s third point of the game was sandwiched between a quadruplet on Bunbrosna scores. Caulry began to patch together some better play with points from Donoghue, Nicky Killane and Malynn before the final quarter. In the closing minutes of the half, this patterned continued with Caulry outscoring Bunbrosna 0-5 to 0-3. Four of these were courtesy of Malynn frees and Donoghue added a nice score from play. Ultimately, the homeside had done enough and ran out comfortable winners.
