Division 2 ACFL
Caulry
5-12
Ballynacargy 1-7
Our seniors had a good win over Ballynacargy when they played the homeside on a fine Thursday evening last.
Good work from Sean Fox at the centre of the field set Thomas Dunning up for the opening score when he fisted the ball over the bar after 33 seconds. Tadgh Baker applied pressure in the Caulry defence and this forced the homeside wide. Our lads were wasteful up front throughout the following five minutes, racking up five wides. Ballynacargy were similar up their end of the field as a mismatch pass went wide. Dunning got Caulry back on track on the 9th minute when he fisted the ball into the back of the Bal net. This move was started by Cillian Nagle who found Harry Stuart Trainor. Kevin Maguire and Sean Doyle then combined nicely before the three-pointer was finished to give us a four-point lead. Dunning added another point on the 10th minute thanks to a pass from Senan Baker. Tom Cloonan worked tirelessly throughout the game as his defensive endeavours forced another wide. The next score of the game was set up by Oisín Shortall as he intercepted the ball before finding Conor McCormack with a pass. The county duo of McCormack and Baker worked well together as Baker riffled the back of the Bal net on the 12th minute. Colin Murphy’s point then stretched the lead to nine before Nagle brought off a fine save. The homeside eventually got going on the 16th minute and they done so in style when they found a hole in the Caulry defence and registered the third goal of the game. A couplet of points later had the margins reduced back to four. The action-packed first half continued when Baker made it look easy as he rounded the defence and rattled the back of the Ballynacargy net on the 22nd minute. The remainder moments of the half saw the sides register 0-5, two of these in our favour from the boots of McCormack and Alan Malynn.
Our lads continued to dominate proceedings in the second half, adding an unanswered 1-4. Murphy, Baker and Maguire added points before McCormack got the goal after combining with Baker. Although scoring as much, Caulry could have doubled their tally had some efforts not gone astray during this period. Ballynacargy broke our momentum with two points on the 47th and 48th minutes. However, this impact was futile as Olan Healy kicked Caulry’s fifth goal. Scores from McCormack and Malynn rounded off the scoring as ultimately, Caulry ran out easy winners.
