Moate 1-15

Our ladies came up short when they made the journey to Moate on Thursday evening last for their opening game of this year’s IFC.

Our girls were first off the mark when Aoife Collins pocketed a goal on the 5th minute after some good outfield work by Jasmine Maloney and Kate Stuart Trainor. The homeside got off the mark then with a fisted point. A converted free by Leah Quigley preceded Moate’s second point of the game. By the end of the 10th minute, our girls led by six after a duo of scores: Megan Clinton kicked a point after Molly Connaughton contested the kickout before Stuart Trainor raised a green flag after combining well with Collins. The opposition never panicked as they drew three points back with a series of unanswered scores. Points form Quigley and Collins kept the scoreboard ticking over as by the halftime whistle, only one point separated the sides.

Connaughton restarted the scoring in the second half after Grace Shortall intercepted the ball down the field to set up this first attack. Moate drew level then with two points in quick succession. Maloney’s 36th minute point momentarily gave our girls the lead again but the sides were back on par with another score from Moate. It was the home side’s turn to take the lead then when they pointed at the end of the second third. The opposition never looked back from this point on as they made the most of a purple patch which yielded 1-3 (their goal coming from a penalty despite the best efforts of Aisling Claffey). Before the full time whistle, Quigley converted a free as ultimately, the late rally from Moate was enough to secure them the win.
