Junior B Championship Round 1
Caulry 3-14
Rosemount 1-11
Our Junior B’s got off to a winning start when they hosted Rosemount in the park for the opening round of this year’s championship on Tuesday evening last.
Our lads got off to the best of starts when John Maguire finished with a goal after a good flow of play via Shane Lawless and Thomas Dunning. The visitors to the park were back within a point after a couple of scores of their own. Dunning kicked our opening point of the game after eleven minutes. By the 16th minute, it was all square after another duo of Rosemount points. Dunning reinstated our lead then when he kicked consecutive scores: first he fisted a point before registering our second goal of the game (Maguire doing well to keep the ball in play). Further points followed then from the boots of Liam Malynn (a free) and Luke Buckley (from play) before Rosemount’s next point of the game. Dean Martin done well under the kickout on the 23rd minute as this move was finished to the back of the net by Buckley. Before the break, the opposition added 1-1 to Caulry’s 0-2 (Shane Lawless and Dunning on target for us) to see six points between the sides at the break.
Just four scores were shared during the third quarter as Rosemount added two points to Caulry’s two scores (Buckley and Malynn, a two-point free, the scorers). By the 51st minute, nine points separated the sides after a duo of scores including a two-pointer from Lawless. Rosemount converted frees either side of further points from Lawless and David Gaynor as ultimately, our lads had done enough to come away with the win.
Team & Scorers: Cillian Nagle, Rory Hatton, Luke Hamilton, Ciaran Gaynor, Daniel Lynam, Darren Hynds, Dean Martin, David Gaynor (0-1), Shane Lawless (0-5, 1 2pt.), Liam Malynn (0-3, 2f, 1 2pt.), Luke Buckley (1-2), Will Buckley, John Maguire (1-0), Thomas Dunning (1-3), Adam Donoghue
Subs: Dean Burns for Will Buckley, Mark Fitzpatrick for John Maguire, Aaron Murphy for Luke Buckley, Rory Mullins for Adam Donoghue
Girls U14 Championship Round 1
Caulry 4-13
Multyfarnham 3-4
Our U14 girls were successful in their first outing of the championship when they hosted Multyfarnham in the park on Thursday evening last.
The first half of the game was very competitive with just one point separating the sides at the break. After eleven minutes of play, the Multyfarnham girls led 0-2 to 2-1 (Maeve Noone and Lexi Grady on target for us). Credit must be given to the opposition’s goalie who denied our girls on multiple occasions during this passage. Gemma Dungan wasn’t to be bested though on the 21st minute as she booted home a goal. Points from Grady saw our girls trail by the narrowest of margins at the break.
Emme Fitzgerald equalised with a point three minutes after the restart before a series of points from Grady, Noone and Cara Winters put our girls in front. Multyfarnham kept in touching distance with a point of their own at the end of this third quarter. Cara O’Neill, Noone and Grady gave our girls a six-point advantage then but this was short-lived as the visitors booted home a goal on the 51st minute despite the best efforts of Louise Donohoe and Katie Claffey. With our backs to the wall, our girls showed great character in the remaining minutes of the game. Excellent defending from Claffey and Abigail Kelly managed to hold the opposition scoreless as a hattrick of goals from Leah Allen (two) and Holly ensured our girls ran out winners after a hard fought battle.
Team: Louise Donohoe, Caoimhe Browne, Katie Claffey, Leah Allen, Grace Hallissy, Abigail Kelly, Gracy Cleary, Grace O’Rourke, Emme Fitzgerald, Lexi Brady, Sophie May Collins, Daina Fox, Cara Winters, Gemma Dungan, Maeve Noone, Hollie Buckley, Ciara Devlin, Annie Ledwith, Aoibhín O’Brien, Cara O’Neill
