Athlone 6-13

Our U14 boys were defeated by a strong Athlone side when the teams clashed in the opening round of the championship on Wednesday evening last.

The opposition were first to get off the mark with a point from play before Cian Buckley opened our scoring account in style with a goal after three minutes. The opposition went ahead then with a series of unanswered points. Senan Brady and Adam Ledwith kicked points either side of Athlone’s first goal of the game. Before the break, Buckley converted a free.

Our boys remained competitive throughout the second half as Michael Grady booted home an early goal before Ledwith pointed. Athlone remained cool and composed as they always upheld their lead. Ledwith, Grady and Cillian Moran all added to the scoreline for us before fulltime as ultimately, it wasn’t our evening.
