Girls U14 League Round 5
Hard luck to our U14 girls who were defeated by a strong Cill Oige side in the park on Thursday evening last. Our girls got off to a good start when Grace O’Rourke converted a penalty after a foul on Eabha Hatton. The opposition weren’t long though about getting their scores on the board and had Caulry on the back foot. Our girls kept fighting throughout the game with scores from Robyn Moran and Emme Fitzgerald, but ultimately, it wasn’t our evening.
Team: Louise Donohoe, Ciara Devlin, Anna Carroll, Caoimhe Browne, Daina Fox, Katie Claffey, Leah Allen, Tara Ledwith, Cara Winters, Cara O’Neill, Grace O’Rourke, Robyn Moran, Gemma Dungan, Eabha Hatton, Hollie Buckley, Grace Cleary, Emme Fitzgerald, Farah Fox, Annie Ledwith, Meabh Noone, Aoibhin O’Brien, Alison White
Division 1 ACFL Round 9
Caulry 1-16
Tubberclair 0-11
Our seniors wrapped up their Division 1 ACFL campaign with a win over Tubberclair when they hosted the side in the park on a wet and windy Friday evening last.
Brian Doyle opened the scoring account in style when he booted over a two-point score after Damien Dolan turned over the ball out the field. Tubberclair got off the mark then with a converted-free. Dolan was the instigator of our second score of the game on the 11th minute when he set up Tiarnán O’Donovan who raised another orange flag (Liam Malynn doing well to pick him out with a cross field pass). Luke Buckley’s point just before the end of this opening quarter briefly extended our lead to four then. The sides were level within five minutes after four unanswered Tubberclair points (during this period the opposition dominated our kickout). Doyle’s second score of the game was cancelled out up the other end of the field then. Malynn got on the end of a short ball in from Sean Murphy and rattled the back of the Tubberclair net to put our lads three points in front. The opposition added another point before Doyle sent over his second sensational two-pointer to further our lead. Before the break, Tubberclair added one to leave the scoreboard reading 1-8 to 0-8 at the break.
An early trio of Caulry points widened the gap between the sides (O’Donovan added two while Doyle secured his fourth score of the game). Oisín Shortall was unlucky on the 39th minute as his effort for a fisted-point fell short and into the back of the net before being rightfully disallowed. Tubberclair built from this free and finished with a point up their end of the field. Points from O’Donovan, Shortall and Kevin Maguire (a two-point free) kept the scoreboard ticking over. Tubberclair scuppered a goal opportunity late in the game (Eoin Fox’s tenacious defending can be accredited to this). O’Donovan kicked our last score of the game before two late Tubberclair points saw the match finish on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-11.

Division 4 ACFL Round 9
Caulry 0-16
Rosemount 0-11
Our second team secured promotion from the Division 4 ACFL when they overcame Rosemount in the park on a blustery Sunday morning last.
Rosemount were three points up in as many minutes thanks to two scores from play, the first of which a two-pointer which sailed over the bar as the opposition availed of the strong breeze at their backs. Liam Malynn opened our scoring account after five minutes when he converted a free after Oisín Shortall was fouled up front. The visitors added another before Thomas Dunning fisted over our first score from play (Malynn picking out Shortall with a fine cross-field ball to set up this score). Rosemount briefly extended their lead to four when they added 0-3 to our 0-1 (Luke Buckley on target for us). Malynn, who excelled at free taking throughout the game, raised his first orange flag on the 23rd minute, but a late Rosemount point saw the opposition lead by three at the break.
Rosemount were first off the mark in the second half as they worked a point from a quick free. Our lads were slow to settle as a few chances fell astray before a pointed-free by Malynn on the 37th minute brought the gap back to two. Our lads scuppered further chances to go in front as the next two scores were points for Rosemount and left our lads chasing a four-point deficit going into the final ten minutes. Olan Healy inspired a late resurgence for us as he broke down the field and combined with Adam Donoghue who booted over a fine two-point score. Malynn almost single-handedly dragged us over the line as he accounted for the next three scores of the game (all from frees and two of which were worth two points) to turn the scoreline on its head and put our noses in front for the first time in the game. Brian Doyle showed good guile with his fisted-point on the 59th minute to leave at least two scores between the sides, the margin now being four points. Buckley put five then between the sides as the result was more or less written in the stars. Rosemount had late chances, none of which were successful as the Caulry defence held strong (Eoin Shortall getting in a vital block during this period) as ultimately, our lads had done enough to secure promotion and a league final spot.
