Division 4 ACFL
Round 5
Caulry 4-10
Moate 0-15
Our second team kept up their winning ways when they made the short journey to Moate on Tuesday evening last for their fifth Division 4 ACFL game.
It was the homeside who opened the scoring account with a two-point score inside the opening 60 seconds. Moate added another then before Liam Malynn had the teams back on par when he got a vital touch to a high ball in from Thomas Dunning. It was the opposition who played most of the football in this opening half as a trio of unanswered points saw them take the lead once again. Malynn drew two of these back with when he raised an orange flag from a free on the 19th minute. Another Moate point preceded our next score of the game came from the boot of Adam Donoghue. The homeside saw out the half with another trio of scores to lead by five at the break.
Moate stretched their lead to six in the restarting minutes of the second half. Aaron Murphy got on the end of a ball in by Malynn to reduce the gap once again. The same man struck lucky for a second time four minutes later. The men in white and black added their next score of the game from a free before our lads completely took charge of proceedings. Dunning’s two pointer at the end of the third quarter seemed to inspire our resurgence as this score put our noses in front by one. Within a couple of minutes, our lads widened the gap courtesy of four points by Malynn; he added two frees either side of two points from play (Will Buckley, Roan Sweeney and Eoin Shortall all playing their parts to set up these scores). Malynn booted a superb long ball into our forward line on the 54th minute which Cody Parker helped into the back of the Moate net. Before the final whistle, the homeside added two points but it was our final quarter blitz proved too much for the opposition on this occasion.

Round 6

St. Mary’s 2-5
Our second team kept up their winning streak on the following Sunday afternoon when they hosted St. Mary’s in the park.
Early scores from Thomas Dunning, Roan Sweeney and Adam Donoghue helped our lads into the lead. St. Mary’s got off the mark then with a couple of scores to bring our lead back to two. Just as the opposition got close, our lads pulled away again when Thomas Dunning pocketed a goal after combining nicely with Roan Sweeney. Points from Liam Malynn and Dunning preceded our third goal of the game, this from the boot of Dunning once again as he snuck this shot low past the keeper. Dunning added another point before the break as the scoreboard read 3-5 to -04 at the interval.
Neil Clinton riffled the back of the St. Mary’s net soon after the restart to widen the gap. Dunning added another point to his tally then before a duo of Rochfortbridge goals and a point from play brought the visitors back into contention. Sweeney, Dean Burns and Malynn kept the scoreboard ticking over with their respective points. Before the fulltime whistle, Olan Healy and Luke Buckley put their names on the scoresheet as our lads eased over the finish line.
