Division 4 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 5-7
Garrycastle 1-9
A flurry of goals helped our Division 4 ACFL side keep up winning ways when they hosted neighbours Garrycastle in the park on St. Patrick’s morning last.
As was the nature of the game, the first score came in the form of a goal when Shane Lawless opened the scoring account after two minutes. Garrycastle followed this closely with a point and by the 13th minute, the sides were all square after the opposition kicked the game’s first two pointer. Our lads done well throughout this first half as they battled against a strong breeze blowing right down the centre of the park. Despite this, Thomas Dunning and David Gaynor both took their consecutive points well. However, the men in green and red always kept in touching distance as another orange flag (this from a free) levelled the sides once again. Eoin Shortall fielded our resulting kickout well as a 1-2 between Dunning and Roan Sweeney saw the latter pocket our second goal of the game. In similar fashion to before, Garrycastle responded in style as the sides were on par for a third time by the 23rd minute. Neil Clinton added a late point to see Caulry retreat to the dressing rooms at half time with a one point lead.
It could be said that our lads had an easier task at hand in the second half as the sixteenth man, the predominant wind, was now in our favour. A duo of goals from the boot of Dean Burns gave our lads the early lead, one they would not relinquish. Dunning had added a point before Garrycastle got going on the 46th minute with a goal of their own. Scores from Malynn (one a two point free and one from play) kept the scoreboard ticking over. The visitors added a late point but only before Cody Parker fired home the fifth and final goal of the game as our lads picked up their second brace of points.

Ladies Division 2 League Round 1
Caulry 3-6
St. Joseph’s 2-13
Our ladies came up short against St. Joseph’s when the sides met in the park on Sunday morning last.
Our girls got off to a glorious start with Leah Quigley rattling the back of the net straight from the throw in. The sides exchanged points then before the opposition pocketed their first goal of the game to make it all square after five minutes. St. Joseph’s momentarily went ahead then with two points from play, but Leah Hallissy had Caulry back in front by the 12th minute when she fired home our second goal (Megan Clinton making a good run forward to set up this attack). St. Joseph’s came by points easier as they added five to our one (Rachel Maguire added for Caulry on the 24th minute) to go ahead. Just before the break, Molly Connaughton converted a penalty to leave it all square at the interval.
St. Joseph’s were first to get going in the second half, doing so in style with a well taken goal three minutes after the resumption of play. A brace of points for the green and yellow side helped them to pull away. Our girls got consecutive points on the 48th and 49th minutes (both frees from Hallissy). Erin O’Faoláin and Quigley added late scores but ultimately, the visitors had done enough to get away with the win.
Team & Scorers: Aisling Claffey, Aisling Murphy, Susan Duignan, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Amy Murphy, Aoife Collins, Ruth Martin, Megan Clinton, Rachel Maguire (0-1), Molly Connaughton (1-1, 1f), Eunice David, Erin O’Faoláin (0-1), Leah Hallissy (1-2, 2f), Leah Quigley (1-1, 1f)
