Division 1 ACFL Round 3
Caulry 1-11
Killucan 2-14
Our seniors came up short against Killucan when they hosted the side in the park on Saturday morning last for Round 3 of this year’s Division 1 ACFL campaign.
Killucan were first off the mark when their cornerback sent over a well taken two-pointer. By the 12th minute, the sides were back level after Shane Lawless converted a free before Oisín Shortall booted over a point (Stephen Connolly fielding the kickout to set up this score). The yellow bellies looked dangerous up front by times, one such example came on the 16th minute when a dangerous ball in bounced over the bar. Connolly finished off a move nicely two minutes later to keep the sides equal. By the 23rd minute, our lads were in front thanks to a duo of converted-frees by the net minder Liam Malynn (the second of these was outside the 50m arc). The opposition added a point before Kevin Maguire raised another orange flag for Caulry. A blip in concentration on our end was punished by the men in white and yellow as they overturned the ball and finished with a goal. The sides traded points from play (Tiarnán O’Donovan adding Caulry’s score after Olan Healy got under the kickout) to see the scoreboard reading 0-9 to 1-5 at the break.
Now with the breeze at their backs, Killucan launched the first go of attacks, only two of which were successful; they added a point straight after the restart before raising their second green flag on the 38th minute. Connolly tapped over a free then to reduce the opposition’s lead to two, but this was as close as we got as the yellow bellies added four unanswered points between the 41st and 44th minutes. Our next score of the game came from the boot of O’Donovan (this from a free after the opposition breached the 3up rule). The sides shared a sum of six points then as Killucan kicked two points from play (one of these a two pointer) and Caulry rattled the back of the net (this from Neil Clinton after rebounding in off the post). We had a couple of late scoring chances, but unfortunately the harm couldn’t be undone as Killucan eased into a win.

Division 7 ACFL Round 1
Caulry 3-12
Ballycomoyle 1-5
Our third team made a winning start to their Division 7 ACFL campaign when they made the long journey up to Ballycomoyle on Sunday morning last.
It was Caulry who done all the scoring in the first half with the homeside just accounting for one point. Lee Corcoran kicked the opening score of the game from a free before Luke Nolan and Daniel Lynam put their names on the scoresheet. Lynam got the first goal of the game then on the 4th minute after Nolan fielded the kickout. Ballycomoyle got their first and only score of the half when their no. 8 split the posts after thirteen minutes. Fionn O’Donovan proved steady in goal as he kept a clean sheet in the first half whilst there was no fault to be found regarding his kickouts. Points from Corcoran (two frees and one from play) and Neil Clinton preceded the second goal of the game; this time Mark Fitzpatrick was the scorer after nice-combined teamwork from Jonny Buckley and Lynam. Fitzpatrick and Clinton added two more points to see our lads lead 2-9 to 0-1 at the break.
The weather conditions worsened for the opening ten minutes or so of the second half making it difficult for our lads to continue their scoring prowess. Instead, it was Ballycomoyle who came by scores with ease as the breeze was now in their favour. The homeside added a two-pointer and a free to reduce the gap between the sides. Our lads had their chances, but only three of these paid dividends as Clinton, Eddie Daly and Corcoran added points. Between the 48th and 51st minutes, Ballycomoyle added 1-1. However, this was as good as it got for the opposition as our first half endeavours proved too much to overturn. Rory Mullins finished the scoring with a goal as our lads eased into the win with a final score of 3-12 to 1-5.
