Division 4 ACFL Round 1
Caulry 4-13
Tubberclair 2-5
Our second team got off to a winning start when they played Tubberclair under lights on Tuesday evening last.
The homeside were first off the mark with a point from play after two minutes. Liam Malynn then added our opening score from a free after Thomas Dunning was fouled up front. Tubberclair missed a few chances before Malynn converted his second free of this game (this time David Gaynor was fouled after making good progress up front). Shane Lawless kicked our first point from play then after nine minutes (Oisín Shortall sending the ball into the point scorer after a patient build up of play). The homeside were back in front by the 12th minute after their centre back tore forward like a steam train and fired home the game’s first goal. Within two minutes though, Lawless had overturned the scoreline when he palmed the ball into the back of the Tubberclair net after his initial effort was saved. The opposition added two points then before Dunning split the posts on the 25th minute. Luke Buckley fired home another goal for Caulry then (Lawless showing well under the kickout before combining nicely with Dunning to set up this move). Lawless added another point from play after twenty-eight minutes. Just before the interval, Tubberclair punished our lads for a dip in concentration as their no. 15 booted home a goal low and left to leave the scoreboard reading  2-5 to 2-3 in our favour at the interval.
The third quarter of the game saw the least amount of notable action as just three scores were added; Gaynor added two points before Rory Hatton put his name on the scoresheet to extend our lead to six. Tubberclair converted consecutive frees inside the 52nd minute to reduce the deficit somewhat. Another converted free, this time from the boot of Malynn, gave our lads some breathing space as five points separated the sides with as many minutes remaining in the game. However, the homeside weren’t going to go down without a good fight as they put Cillian Nagle under pressure in goals. Nagle, however, wasn’t to be bested on this occasssion as he denied the opposition. Within the space of a a minute, the game was put to bed when Malynn and Dunning both pocketed themselves goals (Olan Healy set up Malynn’s while Aaron Murphy and Oisín Shortall were instrumental in Dunning’s three pointer). Malynn rounded off the scoring with two fine points (the second a fabulous two pointer) to seal the victory for our lads.
