Boys’ Minor League Round 4
Caulry 1-11
Coralstown/Kinnegad 2-8
Our minor boys had to settled for a share of the spoils on Friday evening last when they hosted Coralstown/Kinnegad for Round 4 of the league.
Points from Gavin McSharry and Lee Corcoran gave Caulry the lead early on before Coralstown/Kinnegad went in front courtesy of a goal after a break down in our attack on the 9th minute. Corcoran levelled things up then with a converted-free. By the 23rd minute, our boys were back in front, this time by three points after well taken scores from Corcoran (another free and one from play) and Daniel Lynam. Before the interval, the visitors tapped over two points to lead by the narrowest of margins.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the second half as the teams cancelled out one another’s points; Dean Martin was on target for Caulry in the early stages of the half. Our boys momentarily stretched the lead to five by the 38th minute; Corcoran fired over a fine two-pointer before Brian Doyle rattled home a goal after a good catch from Tyler Mason outfield. Coralstown/Kinnegad kept their composure as a couple of points kept the scoreboard ticking over. The visitors then struck lucky on the 48th minute as this goal overturned the scoreline in their favour. Corcoran’s free tied things up again on the 51st minute as neither team was going to lie down. The opposition went ahead then with a point from play. They held onto this lead for just four minutes as on the 55th minute, the same boy who opened the scoring account, closed the scoring account when McSharry added his second point. Both teams had late chances which they failed to convert as the sides had to settle for a draw.

Ladies Division 2 League Round 5
Caulry 4-11
Killucan 4-9
Caulry and Killucan provided an entertaining hour of football in the park on a sunny Sunday morning last for this Round 5 league clash.
Our girls owned most of the possession in the early stages of the game but couldn’t convert all scoring opportunities as only two chances were successful: these from Aine Gaynor and Megan Clinton. Killucan opened their scoring account on the 10th minute and after a second on the 11th, it was level pegging. The visitors were more clinical up front as by the end of this first quarter, they lead by four after converting 1-1 in quick succession. The sides shared six points during the remainder of the half with Gaynor, Aishling Gaynor and Leah Quigley adding Caulry scores to leave us behind by four at the break.
Killucan got off to a great start in the second half after a fumble in our defence resulted in a goal. However, Aine Gaynor was on fire up front as she accounted for the next three scores of the game; she tapped over two frees before hitting the back of the Killucan net on the 39th minute after a good pass in by Quigley. The visitors settled proceedings somewhat then with a point from play to widen the gap to three at the end of the third quarter. However, within a matter of minutes the scoreline was turned on its head when Gaynor booted home two more goals; the first one from a free which the referee had signalled had passed the line and the second after another fine pass from Quigley. Our girls accounted for the next four points of the game then; Gaynor adding two frees, and Megan Clinton and Katie Killane adding from play. At this point there was only five minutes remaining and it looked at though Caulry were home and hosed but the Killucan contingent weren’t going to hang up their boots that quick; the yellow bellies firstly registered a goal at the second time of asking (Rachel Maguire had previously denied the side a penalty with a good save). A Killucan point brought it back to a three-point game, and then by the 58th minute, it was all-square as the opposition got their fourth goal of the match. Killucan, now dominate under our kickout, used this to their advantage as they nosed in front with a well taken point. It looked as though our girls were going to fall short but Jasmine Maloney was yet to have her say; she tore forward and drove the ball into the top right corner of the Killucan net to regain the Caulry lead. This transpired to be the last play of the game as our girls were delighted to escape with the win after a hard-fought contest.
Team & Scorers: Rachel Maguire, Susan Duignan, Ruth Martin, Anna Malone, Ella Corcoran, Amy Murphy, Grace Shortall, Jasmine Maloney (1-0), Aishling Gaynor (0-1), Megan Clinton (0-2), Leah Quigley (0-1), Karrissa Burns, Molly Connaughton, Aine Gaynor (3-6, 4f), Katie Killane (0-1)
Subs: Aoife Collins for Anna Malone
