Division 1 ACFL Round 4
Caulry 1-8
Mullingar Shamrocks 0-13
Our lads came up short against Mullingar Shamrocks when they made the journey to Springfield on a wet and miserable Saturday evening last for Round 4 of the Division 1 ACFL campaign.
Mullingar Shamrocks were first off the mark, converting a free on the 2nd minute after an earlier attempt had fallen wide. Caulry were given a chance then to level the game with a free kick of their own, but Alan Malynn failed to convert. The same man, however, done better at the second time of asking as he fired over a point from play on the 7th minute (this resulting from a patch of nice-combined teamwork from John Maguire and Stephen Connolly). Both sides exchanged wides then as the next score of the game came from another placed ball; this time it was Luke Buckley who tapped over the free as Malynn was forced onto the sideline momentarily having received some intervention from the physio. Upon re-entry Malynn made his presence felt as he fired home a goal after Connolly won possession at midfield to put our noses in front. The home side then kicked the first two-pointer of the game (this coming from a free) to reduce the gap to two. Alan Daly’s 17th minute point was cancelled out up the other end of the field. Shamrocks took control of the game in the closing stages of this first half as they added a tally of 0-5 (three points from play and one two-pointer free) before the interval to lead by the narrowest of margins as the sides retreated to the dressing rooms for halftime.
The undesirable conditions could account for the sloppiness in play to come in the second half as the rate of scores slowed down and tally of wides grew. A series of missed chances for both sides preceded the opening point of the second half which came on the 35th minute when Jack Connaughton equalised with a two-pointer free. The Mullingar side edged in front again with a point from play three minutes later. The scoreline remained 0-9 to 1-5 then for the next twelve minutes as a myriad of missed scoring chances followed. Eventually, Liam Malynn split the posts from a free on the 50th minute to leave the sides level once again. At this stage, it was anyone’s game. The home side sent over another two-pointer free on the 52nd minute and this transpired to be the difference between the two sides. Late points from Maguire and Buckley were cancelled out up the other end of the field as the Mullingar Shamrocks men escaped with the win with two points to spare.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton (0-2, 1f, 1 2pt), Glen Carolan, Kevin Maguire, Tom Cloonan, Olan Healy, Eoghan Grennan, Sean Clinton, Sean Murphy, Stephen Connolly, Ben Kenny, Oisín Shortall, Alan Daly (0–1), Luke Buckley (0-2, 1f), John Maguire (0-1), Alan Malynn (1-1)

Division 4 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 2-14
Rosemount 3-6
Our Division 4 ACFL side picked up their second brace of points in as many games when they hosted Rosemount in the park on Sunday morning last.
Our lads hit the ground running and notched up 1-1 courtesy of Cody Parker within the opening five minutes of play. Rosemount shortly followed suit with their first three-pointer of the game on the 7th minute after punching a hole in our defence. Shane Lawless sent over a point straight from the following kickout when he was on the receiving end of a massive long-range kick from Ruiari Casey. The next score of the game came via a Rosemount free which was tapped over the bar with ease. Both sides had a number of goal chances within the next few minutes, none of which were successful as the Rosemount men has to settle for a point instead. Our lads finished out the half well, adding 0-4 to Rosemount’s 0-1; Adam Donoghue (after a good intercept outfield by Glen Carolan), Sean Doyle (a fisted effort), Shane Lawless (a well-taken point from play) and Liam Malynn (from a free) were the scorers on target, leaving Caulry leading 1-6 to 1-3 at the break.
Lawless was first to score in the second half before a good save from Casey in goals meant the visitors had to settle for a point on the 33rd minute. Sean Doyle doubled the deficit then when he made a massive stride forward and pocketed himself a goal two minutes later. Between the 37th and 47th minutes, Caulry matched Rosemount’s scores on a 2:1 ratio with Lawless, Donoghue and Malynn all taking their scores well. Kyle Rainey was unlucky not to get a goal of his own on the 48th minute when his effort was well blocked down. Rather it was the opposition who struck lucky three minutes later with their hattrick after a breakdown in our defence. However, it proved to be too little too late for the opposition as a free from Malynn rounded off the scoring and saw our lads run out winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-6.
Team & Scorers: Ruiari Casey, Ciaran Allen, Johnny Buckley, David Gaynor, Alan Daly, Glen Carolan, Cody Parker (1-1), Alan Lynam, Sean Doyle (1-1), Adam Donoghue (0-2), Shane Lawless (0-6), Will Buckley, Liam Malynn (0-4, 4f), Mark Fitzpatrick, Kyle Rainey
Subs: Adam Mullins for Will Buckley, Dean Burns for Kyle Rainey, Dara Shortall for Mark Fitzpatrick

Division 7 ACFL Round 2
Caulry 2-7
Ballycomoyle 1-5
Our Division 7 ACFL side picked up a second consecutive win when they made the journey up to Ballycomoyle on Sunday afternoon last.
Playing against the strong breeze in the opening half, our lads grappled against the conditions and struggled to get scores early on with Ballycomoyle launching multiple attacks; one of which was successful on the 9th minute when a dropping free fell into the back of the Caulry net. Brendan McCormack single-handily brought Caulry back into the game, accounting for all our first half scores. He opened our account on the 12th minute with a point from play before firing home a goal six minutes later to give us a narrow lead. Ballycomoyle sent over a super two-pointer then to reinstate their advantage. The homeside kicked points either side of McCormack’s second point from play as we trailed by two at the break.
Aided by the strong wide, our lads picked up scores easier in the second half. Once again, it was McCormack who was first to score on our behalf as he fired home another goal straight after the throw-in (James Carey giving off a vital pass to set up this piece of play). McCormack added another point before Liam Malynn got his name on the scoresheet on the 38th minute with a converted-free (Dean Burns being the player that was fouled in search of a score). Ballycomoyle only managed to convert one score throughout the second half which came just at the start of the final quarter from a free. Credit must be given to the Caulry defence who worked tirelessly throughout the second half, withstanding the Ballycomoyle threat. Burns, Aaron Hanevy and McCormack all added scores before the final whistle to secure our lads the win on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-5.
Panel & Scorers: Liam Malynn (0-1, 1f), Ciaran Allen, Ciaran Gaynor, Dara Shortall, Ian Malynn, Ernie Buckley, Adam Mullins, Brendan McCormack (2-4), Rory Mullins, Dean Burns (0-1), Gary Flanagan, James Carey, Paddy McHugh, Nicky Killane, Aaron Hanevy (0-1), Liam Doyle, Paddy O Malley, Willie Buckley, James Daly
