Junior B Championship Final
Caulry 2-9
Tyrrellspass 1-5
Our lads were crowned Junior B Champions when they overcame Tyrrellspass on Sunday afternoon last.
The homeside were first to settle into proceedings, opening the scoring account with a point from play on the 1st minute. Tyrrellspass then had the next series of attacks, none of which were successful; two fell short while two went wide. Alan Malynn got Caulry motoring on the 7th minute with a point from play. His brother Liam showed great vision moments later when he booted in a long-range free into the awaiting arms of Olan Healy who lobbed the keeper and gave our lads a three-point lead. Liam Malynn was next to score, this time from a free. Caulry’s scores came thick and fast at this passage of play with Glenn Carolan being next to shoot, having combined nicely with Shane Lawless. A further score from Luke Buckley (a mark) put Caulry six points the good. However, our lads let their heads dip in later stages of the half as a trio of scores for the men in blue and navy halved the deficit. A late effort from Thomas Dunning had the scoreboard reading 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.
The second half was a much different game as a pace and rate of scores slowed. Liam Malynn initially sent over a free after the reset. But that was as good as it got until the last ten minutes of play. To credit the Caulry defence, they worked tirelessly throughout the second half and held the opposition almost scoreless. Liam Malynn’s 51st minute penalty strike restarted the scoring before further points from Malynn, Lawless and Alan Daly put ten points between the sides. It was injury time before Tyrrellspass tagged on any scores; they added 1-1 but ultimately, our lads had done enough to secure the win and were crowned Junior B Champions. Well done the lads and all involved with the team including Kevin Connaughton, Brian Mullarney, Pat Flanagan, Joe Quinn, James Hickey, Conor Muldoon and Laura Doyle.
