Division 2 Minor Championship Semi-Final
Caulry 1-4
Garrycastle 4-14
Our minors bowed out of this year’s championship at the semi-final stages when they travelled to Garrycastle to play the homeside under lights on a chilly Thursday evening last.
Garrycastle opening the evening’s scoring account with a point from play. Simon O’Grady had a chance to score then, but failed to find the posts. However, our boys pounced on the following kickout and it set Kyle Rainey up for a goal on the 5th minute. Despite this optimistic start, our boys failed to push on as the next score of the game was in a similar vein, but this time it was the homeside who accounted for the three-pointer. Garrycastle then followed this up with a pointed-free on the 14th minute. The sides exchanged periods of dominance in the following minutes, but both sides were wasteful up front; Garrycastle ruing two goal chances while our boys notched up a trio of wides. The next score of the game came on the 21st minute, another converted free for the boys in green and red. Aaron Hanevy took his point well then on the 24th minute to bring the gap back to two. However, Garrycastle were looking dangerous up front and their no. 6 finished to the back of the net after tearing up the field. Caulry had a chance to score late in the half from a mark, but this effort was overturned as the homeside made the most, finishing with a point to lead 2-4 to 1-1 at the break.
Garrycastle were more or less home and hosed by the 37th minute of play as a quick tirade of points stretched the lead. Simon O’Grady and Lee Corcoran kicked pointed either side of Garrycastle’s hattrick. Max O’Sullivan brought off a couple of good interventions in goal throughout the second half to keep the dwlidling Caulry hopes alive, but ultimately, it wasn’t to be. Corcoran accounted for our last score of the game on the 52nd minute (a well-taken free) but this was interspersed with a myriad of Garrycastles scores as they ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 4-14 to 1-4.
