SFC Round 3
Our seniors will be on the hunt for a win when they take to the field next Friday evening for their third round of the senior championship. Our lads will be up against the reigning county champions St. Loman’s and are in need for a win in order to get off the mark and out of the dreaded drop-zone. The game takes place in Cusack Park at 7:15pm and all supporters are asked to get behind the lads. We wish the lads and their management team the very best of luck.
Junior B Championship Round 1
Caulry 4-10
Tubberclair 6-6
Our juniors fell at the final hurdle when they contested their opening round of this year’s Junior B Championship in the park on Tuesday evening last.
Tubberclair made a glorious start to the game, notching up 2-0 to Caulry’s 0-2 inside the opening five minutes; our scores coming from Colin Murphy and Oisín Shortall. Liam Malynn’s goal on the 6th minute made a good dent in the deficit and his brother Alan had things all square four minutes later when he tapped over a ‘45’. Tubberclair momentarily went ahead again then, but Murphy popped over the equaliser after a patch of good, combined teamwork. A brace of good fluid movement saw Olan Healy riffle the back of the opposition’s net on the 17th minute. Alan Lynam’s point then put four points between the sides. A point for Tubberclair kept the scoreboard ticking over before Mark Fitzpatrick got the final touch to Harry Stuart Trainor’s surge forward to register our third goal of the game. The visitors saw out the half with a trio of points to bring the deficit back to three at the break.
Scores were fruitful in the resuming minutes of the second half with the sides sharing 2-2; Liam Malynn accounted for both Caulry scores. John Maguire fielded the ball well on the 38th minute and he combined with Murphy who stretched the lead to four. However, Tubberclair were handed a lifeline in the form of a penalty which was dutifully converted on the 41st minute to leave the minimum between the sides. To credit Caulry, our lads responded well and accounted for the next three points of the game; two from Malynn and one from Luke Buckley. However, the men in green and yellow were hot on Caulry’s heels and fired home their fifth three-pointer on the 59th minute to narrow the gap to one once again. Tubberclair had the Caulry backs against the walls and fired in a high ball in front of our goal-line which some how or another ended up in the back of the net to edge them in front. Caulry had a couple of late attacks, but none of these were fruitful as Tubberclair were happy to escape with the win on the evening.
