SFC Round 2 Fixture
Our seniors make the short journey to Hogan Park, Moate on Sunday evening next for their Round 2 clash of this year’s SFC. Our lads will have to battle it out against near neighbours Athlone at 7:30pm. Both sides failed to pick up points in their opening round so inevitably, they will be on the hunt for a win. All eyes will be on the action to see who can come out on top on the evening. All supporters are asked to get behind the lads and we wish them and their management team the very best of luck.
U20 Championship Round 1
Caulry 0-4
Moate 2-12
Our U20s suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Moate on Tuesday evening last in their opening round of the championship.
Despite having a rocky start and kicking some wides, it didn’t take the homeside long to settle into proceedings as they notched up 0-5 before Caulry ever got motoring. Our first score of the game and only score of the half came on the 22nd minute from the boot of Aaron Murphy after a patient build up. Moate responded well with another point of their own. The Moate team worked together as a unit, clogging up their defence and holding our lads scoreless for much of the game. A nice long-range effort from the Moate full forward brought an end to the lacklustre first half and gave the homeside a six-point cushion at the break.
Caulry got off to a better start in the second half with Oisín Shortall opening the scoring account from a free. The sides were evenly matched during this third period as they went on to share 0-4 with our two points coming from frees from Murphy and Shortall. However, Caulry failed to ever really threaten the scoreline whilst a 45th minute goal for the men in white and black saw them stretch their lead further. The homeside finished out the half with a further 1-3 to claim a deserved win.

SFC Round 1
Caulry 1-11
Tyrrellspass 2-12
Our seniors made the journey to Cusack Park on Saturday evening last for their opening championship clash against Tyrrellspass.
Our lads got off to an unstable start and conceded 1-2 to 0-1 within the opening 5 minutes; Senan Baker opened the scoring account before the opposition won the kickout and set themselves up for a goal. Their pair of points then followed in the form of converted-frees. Alan Malynn settled the Caulry ship with his duo of scores on the 6th and 8th minutes (one from a mark and one from play). A wide for Tyrrellspass then followed before Emmet Nally narrowed the gap to one having combined nicely with John Maguire. It was all level by the 12th minute when Conor McCormack tapped over a free (again Maguire was the man involved in setting up this course of play). The opposition accounted for the next score which came on the 18th minute from their corner-forward after their initial free-kick rebounded off the upright. Our lads always kept in touching distance, and it was all-square three minutes later when Stephen Connolly booted over a point. Our lads then took the lead for the first time in the game when Connolly sent a ball into Baker; in a nice, flowing move, Baker laid the ball off to Sean Clinton who split the posts. A free from McCormack momentarily stretched the Caulry lead to two, but the one-point advantage was soon reinstated in similar fashion at the other end of the field. Although there were some late chances for both sides, this transpired to be the last score of the half leaving Caulry with a two-point lead as the sides retreated to the dressing rooms.
Caulry made a positive start to the second half with a point from Malynn after a patient build-up. However, Tyrrellspass began to take charge at this point in the game, owning much of the possession and accounting for the next four scores to overturn the scoreline and give themselves a two-point advantage by the 42nd minute. A goal from Damien Dolan kept our hopes alive when he drove forward and fired home a goal on the 43rd minute to put Caulry in front once again by the narrowest of margins. Our lads had a smattering of chances to stretch this lead in the following minutes, but only one such effort was successful; efforts from Tiarnán O’Donovan and Malynn were well blocked down before Baker eventually tapped over a free. Tyrrellspass kept cool despite the building pressure and worked the ball down the field for a point. The turning point came then on the 56th minute when the men in blue and navy won the Caulry kickout and raced down the field for their second goal of the game. The opposition followed this up with a couple of points, stretching the deficit to four. Malynn kicked the next score of the match, having to settle for a point as the Tyrrellspass goalmouth was packed with defenders. The opposition then accounted for the last score of the game from a free on the 62nd minute to assure their victory.
