Division 2 ACFL
Caulry 4-6
Mullingar Shamrocks 2-5
Our Division 2 lads made it two wins from two when they hosted Mullingar Shamrocks in the park on Sunday morning last.
A few chances for the visitors fell astray before Alan Malynn opened the scoring account with a goal after three minutes. Emmet Nally followed this up with his effort, which was knocked out for a ‘45’ and Jack Connaughton dutifully converted. Mullingar Shamrocks got off the mark on the 14th minute with a converted penalty to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides. A pointed-free moments later had the sides all square. However, Caulry weren’t long about turning the scoreline in our favour once again on the 21st minute when Nally rattled the back of the net after a catch at midfield from Colin Murphy. Malynn fired over a point before the same man got our hattrick after Oisín Shortall found him with a pass, having pounced on a wayward Mullingar kickout. The sides traded a duo of points with Sean Clinton on target for Caulry. Just in the nick of time before the interval, Mullingar Shamrocks got lucky after a high ball in landed into the back of the Caulry net to leave the scoreboard reading 3-4 to 2-2 at the break.
Our lads got off to a flying start in the second half when Thomas Dunning’s free-kick ended up in the back of the Mullingar net early in. The opposition drew two back with their efforts on the 33rd and 35th minutes. Scores were slower to come by throughout this half as the next score of the game was a fisted effort from Dunning on the 41st minute. The last quarter of the game saw just two points, one for either side as our lads had done enough to secure the win.
