U17 Championship
Caulry
1-11
Killucan 1-13
Our U17s were narrowly defeated by Killucan when they met in the park on Monday evening last.
Our lads got off to a good start with two points in quick succession courtesy of Aaron Murphy, one from a mark and one from play. A Killucan free preceded Brian Doyle’s point on the 4th minute. Killucan then went on to dominated the next fifteen minutes of play with five points in quick succession (One of these could have been a goal when the yellow bellies were awarded a penalty on the 14th minute. A good intervention from John Paul on this occasion sent the ball over the bar.) Our lads were brought right back into contention on the 22nd minute when Kyle Rainey pulled on a dropping ‘45’ and registered the first goal of the game. Murphy then followed this up with a point to leave Caulry one point in front. However, Killucan weren’t long about correcting things as their forward fired home a goal despite being surrounded by a Caulry defence. A late score from Murphy saw Caulry trail 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.
The sides were evenly matched throughout the second half as each score was followed up at the other end of the field. On the 42nd and 43rd minutes, Killucan kicked two consecutive points to widen their lead to two, and this remained the score difference for the remainder of the game. Murphy was on song throughout the half, accounting for all the scores bar one, which was a well-taken free from Rory Hatton to conclude the match.
Team & Scorers: John Paul, Sean Donnelly, Kyle Byrne, Rory Hatton (0-1, 1f), Dean Martin, Cormac Murphy, Cody Parker, David Gaynor, Lee Corcoran, Hugo McGowan, Dean Burns, Kyle Rainey (1-0), Simon O’Grady, Aaron Murphy (0-9, 7f), Brian Doyle (0-1)
Subs: Darragh Shortall for Cormac Murphy, Michael McSharry for Kyle Rainey, Cian Malone for Hugo McGowan

U15 Championship
Caulry
8-7
Milltownpass 5-11
Our U15s served up an exciting battle when they hosted Milltownpass in the park on Tuesday evening last. An entertaining first half saw our lads have a five-point cushion at halftime. Despite this, a brace of goals saw the opposition comeback and take the lead. With just five minutes left on the clock, the boys in black and white lead by five. On the 61st, a converted-free from Aaron reduced this gap to four. Our lads showed great spirit as a penalty from Ciarán moments later further reduced the deficit. Deep into injury time at this point, the Caulry boys showed grit and hunger for a win as a last ditch attempt saw Aaron fire home a goal and overturn the scoreline in our favour just in the nick of time.
Team & Scorers: John, Tom, Gavin Q, Rhys (1-0), Luke, Gavin M (0-1), Fionn, John (1-0), Hugo (1-3), Mathew, Ewan, Ciaran (2-0), Daragh M (0-1), Aaron (3-2), Kevin
Subs: Tristan, Evan, Senan, Marcus, Darragh B

SFC Quarter Final
Caulry
1-11
Athlone 2-6
Our club progress to a SFC semi-final for the first time since 1946 after our lads overcame Athlone in a tight contest on Saturday evening last.
Our lads had two chances to take the lead early on but failed to do so as Athlone opened the scoring account on the 4th minute with a converted-free. Another chance for Caulry fell short before Senan Baker got us going with his placed-ball effort on the 7th minute after a foul on Conor McCormack. Caulry were then dealt a blow as Eoghan Grennan was forced to the sideline momentarily having picked up a black card. The ensuing free kick, however, fell wide of its target to keep the sides on par. Two minutes later saw Athlone awarded another free which was tapped over the bar to marginally separate the sides. Both sets of forwards struggled to find scores throughout this half.: Caulry’s plight due to a very strong Athlone defence whereas the Shannonsiders will rue their missed opportunities, some of which created from break downs in our attack. The next score of the game came from the boot of McCormack, again another free. Emmet Nally injected a bit of excitement into proceedings on the 25th minute with his shot on goal being well blocked down. Further efforts from Baker and Paddy Sleator failed to find the uprights as Athlone built from deep and raced down the field, finishing with a three-pointer of their own on the 27th minute. Nally done well two minutes later when he got a touch to a high ball in from Alan Malynn and reduced the gap by one. However, the men in blue and white had one more say as they finished with a point to lead 1-2 to 0-2 at the interval.
Our lads came to life in the third quarter and this period of dominance yielded an unanswered 1-6. A trio of scores courtesy of Baker inside the resuming five minutes of the half levelled the game. Baker then left off a lovely ball to Nally who fired home a goal on the 37th minute to put our lads in the lead for the first time in the game, and this advantage would not be relinquished. McCormack was next to add to the scoring tally. Nally registered his third score of the game on the 42nd minute after a fine intercept from Ben Moran in the Caulry defence. Athlone failed to convert their chances as their tally of wides grew. Tadgh Baker, who done trojan work throughout, burst down the field from a kickout and finished with a point to widen the gap to five as the 45th minute elapsed. A point for Athlone at this point broke the Caulry momentum and steadied their ship somewhat. The opposition weren’t going to lie down as a dangerous ball in was brilliantly deflected out wide by Moran. However, the ensuing ‘45’ resulted in a goal which left just two points between the sides going into the final ten minutes of play. Caulry responded well with back-to-back scores from Sleator and McCormack. Nerves were on show at this point as Athlone piled on the pressure and three scorable chances went wide for Caulry. Thankfully, our defence held strong with interventions from Tadgh Baker and Damien Dolan stalling Athlone’s attack. The men in blue and white did manage two late scores, but ultimately our lads had done enough to secure a semi-final meeting against Coralstown/Kinnegad.
Team & Scorers: Jack Connaughton, Ben Moran, Kevin Maguire, Sean Fox, Tadgh Baker (0-1), Eoghan Grennan, Sean Clinton, Stephen Connolly, Paddy Sleator (0-1), Tiarnán O’Donovan, Conor McCormack (0-3, 1f), Sean Murphy, Emmet Nally (1-2), Senan Baker (0-4, 3f), Alan Malynn

J2FC Quarter Final
Caulry
0-8
Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-12
Our juniors bowed out of this year’s J2FC with a defeat to Coralstown/Kinnegad in Maryland on Sunday afternoon last.
Coralstown/Kinnegad were first to get motoring with a point on the 5th minute. Liam Malynn opened Caulry’s account with his ‘45’ after Darren Browne’s goal was saved. Coralstown/Kinnegad followed this score with another point from play. The opposition then got lucky as our defence buckled under pressure and a goal was let slip in. Darren Browne and Malynn drew two back with scores on the 20th and 21st minutes. However, the opposition reinstated their lead moments later with 0-2 in quick succession. The teams shared a further two points before the halftime whistle which saw Coralstown/Kinnegad lead by four at the break.
The opposition pushed on in the early stages of the second half, adding an unanswered 0-4. Malynn opened our second half account on the 44th minute. The Caulry lads tried hard but couldn’t find the target as the opposition widened the gap with two more points from play. Late scores from Alan Fitzpatrick and Malynn saw Coralstown/Kinnegad prevail with seven points to spare.
